Granuaile joins Xena

XENA the Warrior Princess yesterday met descendants of Ireland's famous pirate Granuaile.

The Discovery Channel will feature the 16th century Irish fighter in a series called Warrior Women. New Zealand actress Lucy Lawless, who plays Xena, will present the series.

Joan of Arc, Bodicea, Chinese heroine Hua Mulan and Apache warrior Lozen are among the other legendary women featured.

Lawless visited Co Mayo yesterday and said she was excited about Granuaile' s story since some of her own ancestors came from the west of Ireland.
