Warrior Star Wants Booze-Up In Glasgow's Tough Bars
SHE has fought giants and single-handedly defeated half the
Roman army - now superheroine Xena Warrior Princess wants to
conquer Scotland's bars.
Xena actress Lucy Lawless has revealed she wants to visit rough
'n' tumble pubs in Glasgow's east end - and could shoot a movie
in them.
Down-to-earth boozers such as The Saracen Head, Bairds and Bar
67 have seen the odd fight at closing time but nothing compared
to the action scenes in megastar Lucy's Xena shows.
The actress, who grew up in New Zealand, said: "I've talked with
a few Hollywood actors who have made movies in Glasgow and they
told me about the Gallowgate and pubs there.
"It sounds like a fun place to be on a Saturday night.
"It is the sort of place Xena would feel at home with and if
there's any trouble, I think I still have my costume somewhere
at home."
Lucy, 40, revealed another Scots inspiration behind her career -
Oor Wullie.
She said: "My best friend at school came from Glasgow and she
used to get all the Oor Wullie and Broons annuals sent over.
"I thought he was a cute little kid, always standing up for
himself and getting into trouble. He also got into a fight now
and then." She added: "I was probably the only kid in New
Zealand who knew about Glebe Street and Wee Eck."
Lucy is visiting the UK this week for the first British Xena
Convention in London.
Thousands of fans of the hit 90s show are expected to attend and
dress as their favourite Xena star.
Lucy, who is making Bedtime Stories with comic actor Adam
Sandler, has also appeared in Battlestar Galactica and notched
up a series of musical hits.
She recently sang with soul legend Smokey Robinson and will
perform at two concerts during her UK trip.

SET in ancient Greece, the show follows heroine Xena as she
attempts to make amends for her past sins as a villainous
warrior.
She is accompanied on her travels by best pal Gabrielle, played
by Renee O'Connor.
The show gained hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide,
making Lucy a global superstar.
