Argo on Auction for Starship Spring Clean!
Well lookee who's back. Argo, Starship Warrior Princess is being auctioned off again to raise money for Starship Spring Clean. The AUSXIP Horse Committee (now branching out in frogs and other assorted animals) has donated Argo to Starship and I'm sure they will find a nice home for her.
If you want a closer look at Argo, check out the video Jo took when she was on display
For those interested in shipping her out of NZ, we estimate it would cost around approx $7000 NZD due to the sheer size of her. |

Lucy's Archey's Frog SOLD Greenpeace To Benefit and Starship to Benefit
Mr Frog sold for $505 - there was a little bit of uncertainty towards the end but it got sorted out and at the end of the day Greenpeace will get $505 they didn't have for the Rainbow Warrior III. Not to be left out, Starship will also win. The AUSXIP Horse Committee (yes those looney people again that bought Argo way back) have branched out into frogs. The AUSXIP Barn is getting quite interesting. We have decided to donate Mr Frog to Starship and thus it's a win/win all round! The kids will benefit from Lucy's beautiful photo as well as Greenpeace. I do like it when a plan comes together <g> Many thanks to Lucy Lawless, Greenpeace and to Trademe. Also huge thanks to my partners-in-crime for being such generous souls. |

Xena Episode Stills - Season 6 Episode 4 Who's Gurkhan?
When Gabrielle learns that her niece has been captured by the vicious raider Gurkhan (Calvin Tuteao), she sets sail for North Africa on a rescue mission with Xena, Eve (Adrienne Wilkinson) and Virgil (William Gregory Lee). SCRIBES & SCROLLS: Story by Robert Tapert. Teleplay by R.J. Stewart. Directed by Michael Hurst. Edited by Rob Field. PASSING PARADE: Willa O'Neill (Lila); Adrienne Wilkinson (Eve); DISCLAIMER: Xena's uncanny ability to recover from devastating wounds was not harmed during the production of this motion picture. STORY SO FAR: Gabrielle goes to North Africa, seeking vengeance on the vicious raider who captured her niece and killed her parents and her sister’s husband years before. REWIND FOR: Xena's helping hand on the tiller in the first shot on board the ship to Mogodor. Touch of the perennial back seat driver's syndrome there. She clearly doesn't trust anyone, least of all the captain of this ship to do anything as well as she can. Can you spell control freak? Yet another human resource recycling moment. You may remember the follicly challenged slave auctioneer in Mogodor from that ol' classic The Quill Is Mightier. He played the hapless general waiting for Ares' "You'll know it when you see it" sign to attack. Guess all those naked Gabrielles must have given him an idea for a career change. Xena growling at Virgil to back off when he squeezes her cheeks (the upper ones) in front of the slave auctioneer. No one can do 'pissed off' quite like Xena. The priceless expression on Virgil's face was bettered a few seconds later when Xena was stripped naked in front of him. There were no FX guys involved when you saw his tongue rolling out of his mouth and his eyes bug out on the end of stalks. The expression a moment later on Gabrielle’s face just before she asks Eve "Where is she".... Eve might have killed whole armies, but she hasn’t truly known danger until that moment methinks. A classic Joxer moment as Superlius - Pirate of the High Seas aka Virgil returns to the ship singing "I capture beautiful maidens and sell them - -." The delusions of grandeur, the fumbling as he drops his bag of gold coins, ending with a "Hi Gabrielle!" would have brought a tear to his father's eye, and an approving belch from his mother. The look on Xena's face when Gabrielle shimmied into view (in a marvellous costume) as she literally bent those glorious abbs over backwards for Gurkhan during her dance audition. Xena's expression was a confused mix of: 1. That's a new trick, and why haven't I seen it before. 2. Where could Gabrielle possibly be concealing a weapon in that outfit she's almost wearing, and, 3. How come she never dresses for me like that?! The scene when a pummelled Xena declares she’s "peachy" as Gabrielle cradles her. Awwww, couldn’t y’all just feel the love. *g* Gabrielle trailing her fingers down Xena's arm in the bathing room scene. That one small gesture demonstrated her deep love and affection for the Warrior Princess better than a thousand ham-fisted scripts ever could. QUOTABLE: "She doesn't have what it takes to kill in cold blood. Do you think I inherited that talent from you mother?" The butter wouldn't melt in her mouth look, and the creepy tone in Eve's voice made you want to itch something. "Eve, that peaceful smile is not going to cut it!" Gabrielle's under the strain of Eve's new 'goody goody' phase and calls her bluff. Guess you can only fool some of the people some of the time, huh Eve? "We did it because we love you." You guessed it, Eve again. Uggh. We surrender already. That girl has all the charm of fingernails being dragged down a chalkboard. "You'll be beaten, dragged, manacled, thrown in a dark dungeon and left to die." A dark dungeon as opposed to the well-lit, rooms with a view, prisoners are usually forced to endure. Meanwhile, Yo, self-appointed entertainment director, impresses her fellow slave girls with a list of 'fun things to do' at Club Gurkhan. "For in my stables, I have rare beauties from every part of the world, just waiting to be plucked." He did say plucked, right? "I have a request - Sarah's head on a plate." And don't be skimpy with the french fries, right Xena? "Join us little one." Ghurkhan seals his death sentence by snuffing out any chance of mercy from Gabrielle. You don't do short jokes around the Bard, mate. |

Xena Episode Stills - Season 4 Episode 1 Adventures in the Sin Trade Part 1
Episode Stills for Season 4 Episode 1 Adventures in the Sin Trade Part 1. Season 4 started with a very Gabrielle lite episode (and Renee wasn't even listed in the opening credits) Distraught with grief over the loss of Gabrielle, Xena travels to Siberia and the Amazon Land of the Dead to find her friend.
SCRIBES & SCROLLS: Story by Robert Tapert & R.J. Stewart; teleplay By R.J. Stewart; edited by Robert Field; directed by T.J. Scott PASSING PARADE: Marton Csokas (Borias); Claire Stansfield (Alti); Sheeri Rappaport (Otere, teenager); Vicky Pratt (Cyane); Erik Thomson (Hades); Kate Elliott (Yakut); Charlotte Saunders (Anokin); Jay Saussey (young dead woman); Samelle Vosloo (Young Otere); Barry Duffield (Koryak); Ben Baker (Chalcis); Barret Irwin (Warrior) STORY SO FAR: Xena tries to find Gabrielle in land of the dead. In the process, she discovers her deeds from her bad old days have kept a tribe of Amazons from entering the Gates of Eternity and decides to right this wrong by going after an evil black shamaness. DISCLAIMER: No Dead Amazons lost their lives in the production of this motion picture. REWIND FOR: Nutso "hiiiieeeeeya!" Xena scene just before the opening credits. OK so it meant nothing but Xena needing to vent, but it sure looked good. The Xena grief-stricken funeral pyre scene, complete with Gabrielle montage - note what scene flashes up as each word is spoken by Xena: "Best thing that ever happened to me": Gabrielle kisses Xena; "Gave my life meaning": they’re handholding; "Joy": a hot tub waterfight; "Part of me forever": a silhouette of them walking together. Very sweet. The establishing shot of the Amazon Queen Cyane in a beautiful classic pose of the proud huntress. Note she always stands higher than Xena in every shot - she has the high moral ground, after all! Have another look at the Beserker and horse... and tell me if that isn’t nearly identical to Robin Williams’s waking hallucinations from The Fisher King. When fighting the Beserker, to keep the pain from stopping her, Xena gives herself a thigh thwap. Is it my imagination or did she use the same type of thigh thwap on Gabrielle during Gabrielle’s Hope to take away the pain of childbirth. That’s one mighty far ranging nerve pinch. QUOTABLE: "Even in death Gabrielle, I will never leave you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. You give my life meaning and joy; you will be a part of me forever." Xena about to keep the mother of all promises. Well, almost... "I can’t Gabrielle, I can’t. You know nothing would make me happier than seeing you again. You are my light. I just realised what it was you gave me. A light of my own. There’s something I’ve gotta do, something you’d want me to do. I love you." Xena getting awfully verbose all of a sudden for a stiff-lipped Warrior Princess. Not that I’m complaining, mind... Perish the thought. BEST COMEBACKS Xena: I’d cut out your sweetheart’s throat... you think I wouldn’t? Land of the Dead girl: Will you be able to get back from there? Xena: I don’t know Land of the Dead girl: She must be a very good friend. Xena: She’s the only friend. |

Xena Episode Stills - Season 4 Episode 2 Adventures in the Sin Trade Part 2
Xena Episode Stills for Season 4 Episode 2: Adventures in the Sin Trade Part 2. This was a Renee-lite episode (one scene at the end of Xena's vision which made the Warrior Princess very happy when she saw what appeared to be Xena & Gab getting crucified and Gabrielle being very much alive in her future). Renee was on set but was shadowing Director TJ Scott and preparing for her directorial debut in Season 4 Episode 22 Deja Vu All Over Again. S4 - Episode 2 Adventures in the Sin Trade Part 2
SCRIBES & SCROLLS: Story by Robert Tapert & R.J. Stewart; Teleplay by R.J. Stewart; Edited by Robert Field; Directed by T.J. Scott. PASSING PARADE: Marton Csokas (Borias); Claire Stansfield (Alti); Sheeri Rappaport (Otere); Vicky Pratt (Cyane); Kate Elliott (Yakut). STORY SO FAR: Xena continues in her quest to kill an evil black shamaness and right a wrong from her past which has kept a tribe of Amazons trapped in the Land of the Dead. She is helped by a group of young Amazons in a far off land, whom she leads. Meanwhile, the shamaness haunts Xena with images of Gabrielle, her future and past - revealing a secret curse that was placed on the Warrior Princess’s son. DISCLAIMER: Xena's search for Gabrielle was not harmed during the production of this motion picture. REWIND FOR: The fastest outfit change in the west (now that’s a gal to go clothes shopping with); followed by a tree-limb sprint that would have put Tarzan to shame; Xena, either by sheer insolence or accident (most likely the latter given her views on Caesar), gives the Roman salute (a single chest thump), not the double chest thump Amazon sign to Cyane at the funeral of the "little redhead" Amazon who Xena killed; the tree swoop fight, overlong, but with enough mystic ambience and originality in places to make you forget they’re just swinging about on ropes; and finally, hey, I know it’s obviously from some upcoming episode, but that flashfoward of Xena and Gabs on the crucifixes saying their final goodbyes, wow, there’s a heart stopper that almost stole the show. QUOTABLE: "This is good for me, right?" Otere cynically questioning Grasshopper Xena’s unusual cleansing ritual and/or seduction techniques. The big question remains: Since when does the Amazon administering the Great Palm Frond Whupping have to be nekkid themselves... hmmm? No wonder Otere had her doubts! "I can never ask your forgiveness. I do ask you let me help you build a new life. That’s what my friend Gabrielle did for me..." And Gabrielle’s been gone how many minutes, Xena? That Warrior Princess sure hangs the Sidekick Wanted sign up fast. Best comebacks: Xena: You’re right, she’s much too tough to die. We should definitely hang with her for awhile. (A rather prophetic choice of words about Cyane.) Xena: You think I deserve better than that (Borias)? Alti: Tell me who she is. Tell me who the blonde one is. Xena: She’s goodness and innocence Alti. And she lives inside me forever. Xena: Gabrielle, you’re the best thing in my life. Gabrielle: I love you Xena. (Okay, okay, so I cheated, and it’s from the future. So shoot me ‘cos I can’t wait that long.) Alti: Your little friend is dying. How does that make you feel? Xena: Good. Cos if she’s dying in my future that means she’s AL-II-IIVE... |

Rainbow Warrior II Handover Ceremony Press Release and Video Lucy is raising money for Greenpeace by auctioning off a dinner with herself and two of her most prized artworks at a CharityBuzz auction (see Lucy's message and photos of the artwork). She is doing this to raise money for Greenpeace's new flagship - The Rainbow Warrior III. The Rainbow Warrior II has been retired from Greenpeace duties and will now serve as a hospital ship. Below is the press release and video from the event: Amsterdam - Dhaka, 16 August 2011 -- At a ceremony in Singapore today, the iconic protest vessel, the Rainbow Warrior II was transferred to Friendship, a Bangladesh based NGO which will refit it for use as a hospital ship.
The Rainbow Warrior II first sailed for Greenpeace in 1989 and replaced the original Rainbow Warrior, after it was bombed and sunk by French Government agents, in Auckland harbour, in 1985. After 22 years of traversing the world's oceans in defence of the environment, the ship will be renamed as Rongdhonu, Bengali for Rainbow. The ship will serve the coastal belt of Bangladesh and the Bay of Bengal delivering primary and secondary medical assistance to some of the most vulnerable communities of the world, communities that have little or no access to basic health care facilities. The Rongdhonu will also serve as an emergency medical ship around the region, enabling Friendship to bring medical aid to those areas which are already experiencing the effects of climate change. Greenpeace, however, will not be long without a Rainbow Warrior, as construction of a new Warrior, the third to bear the name, is nearly complete. The vessel will join the Greenpeace fleet in October as the organisation celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Press: Lucy Lawless Eco-Warrior NZ Herald 12 July 2011
Television star Lucy Lawless has stepped behind the lens to encourage supposedly green but often inactive New Zealanders to protect their environment. The Xena: Warrior Princess and Spartacus actor is one of a group of 10, including a film director, musician, television host, sports star and acclaimed designer, who were asked to photograph a slice of nature. The works-- from Dave Dobbyn's portrait of Antarctica to Mils Muliaina's striking image of the Invercargill beach where he grew up-- will be auctioned on Trade Me for charities chosen by the photographers. Lawless said she chose to capture an image of a frog because the creatures were highly sensitive to water and forest health, and crucial barometers for our environment. Ecoya executive manager Geoff Ross, whose firm is running the Illuminate Our Place photo exhibition, said New Zealand's green intentions were not often backed by action. ''Taking better care of our environment can't simply be left to a few organisations working in a couple of rainforests or the icecaps. The world didn't get in its current shape because of a few forms of mismanagement,'' Mr Ross said.
The exhibition also includes Amazing Race founder Phil Keoghan's photograph of the pristine New Chum beach in the Coromandel. The photographs were unveiled on Wednesday night at Achilles House in Auckland. The auction closes on August 31. |

ILLUMINATE. By Ecoya. All of us have a slice of this country embedded deep within. A giant landscape or a tiny beautiful plant, a vast stretch of water or a bird that drops in to visit our garden every now and again. Whether down country or just down the road, all New Zealanders know places that to them are as precious as family. So what if we talked about these places more ? Showcased them. Even boasted about how fantastic they are. This type of illumination will get them in front of so many more people. This bigger conversation then creates greater attention and ultimately protection - which is what we all want for these many amazing places. This is the thinking behing Ecoya ILLUMINATE, and ten New Zealanders have already agreed to help us start these conversations by illuminating places that are important to them. They're people from incredibly different professions, geographies and backgrounds. They're not trained photographers, they're just like you and me. Thank you Dave, Lucy, Jane , Gaylene, Liz, Phil, Cathryn, Anne, Mils and Lucia. If all of us do this, then that creates a big conversation about a lot of amazing places which will make us all want to look after them a lot better. Illuminate your place. And we will all love it and care for it as much as you do. Nice one. Geoff Ross Source: Ecoya.com and stuff.co.nz

IMDB Blog Chats with Lucy Lawless at the TCA Summer Tour 29 July 2011 Minor Spoilers
“Spartacus: Vengeance” – A Chat with Lucy Lawless with IMDB Blog **Interview contains MINOR spoilers*** The last time we saw Lucretia, the scheming Roman noblewoman played by Lucy Lawless in the Starz action series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” she had been run through by an escaping gladiator and was bleeding to death on the floor. Quite a difference from the good life she had previously enjoyed on the backs of slaves. But nothing we’ve seen Lawless in before appears to be as psychologically challenging as Lucretia, a formidable woman who, in spite of her intimidating appearance, Lawless characterized as “a little fish swimming for her life with all of these sharks on every side.” We sat down with the gracious New Zealand actress at the Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles to ask her about what’s in store for Lucretia, whose main source of solace this season will be playing “vicious parlor games” with her enemy Ilithyia. (You may want to watch the trailer first…and beware that this Q&A contains mild spoilers.) |

Message From Lucy - Auction Meet & Greet Lucy! Received the following note from Lucy - she is raising money for Greenpeace and the Rainbow Warrior III - As many of you are aware the first Rainbow Warrior was sunk by the French in 25 years ago and now Greenpeace want to launch another Rainbow Warrior. Lucy is a Greenpeace ambassador. More details about the auction as it comes to hand but here is Lucy's message: I am auctioning a meet and greet as part of the Greenpeace Int'l auction to raise money for the Rainbow Warrior III. I am selling some artwork and personal jewelry. After all, it's not worth shit without a clean planet. Auction is Aug 24 in NY. I am on a
mission to raise money so that the Rainbow Warrior III can battle 'The
Oncelers', as Dr Seuss called them, that are raping our planet. A
sustainable future is within our grasp. Evolve now! Love, love, love, Here is more info from Greenpeace about their auction efforts: The legacy of the Rainbow Warrior is important to New Zealanders. When the original Warrior was bombed 25 years ago, in Auckland's harbour, Kiwis rallied to support Greenpeace. In 1989 we launched the Rainbow Warrior II, and now we urgently need to replace her. As you're probably aware, the New Zealand office hopes to raise $400,000 to fund the new Warrior's "Rapid Response Centre". We've made some great progress towards that goal, raising approximately $150,000 so far. Hundreds of supporters have donated online at www.rainbow-warrior.org.nz and many more have sent donations in through the mail. Our fundraising auction in Auckland on October 20 was also a great success. Greenpeace supporters, spanning several generations, gathered at Webb's auction house in Newmarket to celebrate the achievements of the Rainbow Warrior and to help write the next chapter in her extraordinary story. There is not space to thank everyone individually, but we'd like to acknowledge the generous Kiwi artists, businesses and supporters who donated items, time and effort to help make this event the success it was. We still have a funding shortfall, and just eleven months to reach our total. With the perilous state of our planet, the Earth needs the Warrior more than ever before and we're optimistic that our supporters around the country will dig deep to help us get over the line. Please help spread the word and ensure we launch the Rainbow Warrior III. Donations can be made at www.rainbow-warrior.org.nz, by post, or by phoning 0800 22 33 44. |

AfterEllen at TCA Spartacus Panel - Lucy Lawless Teases About Spartacus Vengeance
AfterEllen was at the TCA Summer Tour Spartacus Panel and reviewed the panel and in particular Lucy and Katrina Law. Lucy Lawless and Katrina Law tease this winter's "Spartacus: Vengeance" ... Finally, not that any of us needs another reason to love Lucy Lawless, the 43-year-old actress has never forgotten her past (when she first captured legion of fans as the star of Xena: Warrior Princess) and appears genuine when she receives accolades from the sci-fi/fantasy community. Asked how she felt about her recent Saturn Award win for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series and she replied with a smile, “Lovely. They are all, I feel, like family to me because they were there at the beginning of my career, and that sort of carried me through. And I’m very grateful for their support. And it’s nice to be recognized. I’ve never won anything — a hula hoop competition when I was about eight — but, yes, this is a nice one-two-punch for a talent locking mission.” |
